EDMO ROLE IN EUROPEAN DEMOCRACY ACTION PLAN
While the European Commission sets out measures to promote free and fair elections, strengthen media freedom and counter disinformation, EDMO has an important role to play in the Action Plan, in developing a framework to ensure an effective data disclosure for research on disinformation and in strengthening media literacy.

EDMO call for comment on GDPR article 40 working group
Last November, we asked for comments from interested stakeholders regarding EDMO’s intention to launch a new Working Group on ‘Access to Data Held by Digital Platforms for the Purposes of Social Scientific Research.’ The working group will develop a Code of Conduct under Article 40 of the General Data Protection Regulation. Results will be published soon.

Workshop on using AI for fact-checking
The workshop will bring together private companies that are developing AI based fact checking tools with fact checkers and journalists to share experiences of good practices, limits and risks encountered in their work.

IIEA Webinar on misinformation challenges for European Democracies and the role of EDMO: Professor Miguel Poiares Maduro, Chair of the Executive Board of the EDMO, spoke to the Institute of International and European Affairs about the threat of misinformation and the role of the European Digital Media Observatory.
Workshop on Language Technology vs. Disinformation: Paula Gori (EUI) and Nikos Sarris (ATC) presented EDMO Policy, Technical Infrastructure and Tools at the Workshop organised by DG Connect and Crosslang on language technologies supporting the fight against the deliberate, large-scale and systematic spreading of disinformation.
EDMO and the EC digital policy approach: Elda Brogi (EUI) and Iva Nenadic (EUI) discuss the European plan to increase transparency and accountability of the gatekeeper online platforms to protect democracy and EDMO`s role in the Commission’s digital policy approach on MediaLaws.
