EDMO updates - 4th Edition, October 2021

FIRST EDMO NETWORK GATHERING

On 7 and 8 September, the newly established eight EDMO National Hubs met with the EDMO Executive Board. The two days event was an opportunity for the network to share views on key elements to build a solid collaboration framework for a national and multinational approach against online disinformation. BRIEFS AND COLLABORATIVE INVESTIGATIONS

Following the launch of its digital collaborative platform, the EDMO fact-checking network has started its joint activities against disinformation in the EU. Since July 2021 members of the network have published monthly fact-checking briefs on the main disinformation trends detected and the first collaborative investigation on the main disinformation narratives around the Afghan crisis.

MAPPING EU ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES ON DISINFORMATION

EDMO has published its first Scientific Publications Repository providing a map of relevant academic activities on European digital disinformation at scale. It aims to assist European researchers and foster new collaborations among them and within the EDMO project. An additional repository of policy and media literacy-related papers will be created later on. Stay tuned!

EDMO TRAINING WEEK

In December 2021 EDMO will organise its first Training Week. The different training modules will cover a variety of topics from Media Literacy to advanced fact-checking tools against disinformation. Applications will be opening soon on the EDMO training page.

#RIGHTSFORUM21: 'CONTENT MODERATION AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN THE FIGHT AGAINST ONLINE DISINFORMATION’.

EDMO is organising a panel debate at the 2021 Fundamental Rights Forum. The session aims to shed light on content moderation policies by online platforms and the importance of upholding freedom of expression in the context of countering online disinformation  Register now and check out the programme.

Launch of EDMO Working Group on Access to Platform DataTwelve representatives from academia, civil society, and several technology companies have started to explore the creation of a Code of Conduct on access to platform data for researchers under Article 40 of the GDPR.

EDMO’s 1st Public Report:  In September 2021, EDMO published its first Public Report. Navigating the five main focus areas of the project, it provides an overview of the main actions carried out by EDMO during its first 10 months of activities.

EDMO Week, re-watch it: From 7 to 11 June 2021 EDMO brought together 500+ participants to celebrate its first annual conference, EDMO Week. Highlights included the keynote speech by European Commission Vice-President for Values and Transparency Věra Jourová. (Re)watch the conference!
